Product Description Canon 300/4.0 EF-L IS USM Lens USA
Amazon.com Product Description Bring your subjects closer while shooting sports or wildlife with the Canon EF 300mm f/4L telephoto lens. The lens is equipped with Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, which compensates for camera shake by providing the equivalent effect of a shutter speed two stops faster. The camera provides two IS modes: Stabilizer 1, the same mode featured on the EF 75-300mm lens, and Stabilizer 2, which steadies the image during horizontal or vertical panning. The lens is also half the weight of the 300mm f/2.8L IS, with a close focus distance of 4.9 feet. And like all of Canon?s fixed focal length L-series lenses above 135mm, it?s compatible with Canon's EF 1.4x II and 2x II Extenders. Specifications - Focal length: 300mm

Great 300mm prime lens July 29, 2010 Michael Huang (Mountain View, CA) The Canon EF 300mm f4/L IS was one of Canon's first image stabilized lenses, and as a result, it is a little slower than newer IS lenses. The image stabilization has two modes -- one for tripod use and one for hand holding.
The picture quality is fantastic, coming out of this lens, and it is lighter weight than the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM for a fraction of the price.
Attaching this lens to the 1.4X II Extender effectively makes the lens equivalent to 420mm f/5.6, while still retaining autofocus capability.
With the Canon EF 2X II Extender, the lens loses autofocus, but is effectively a 600mm f/8 lens.
I was a bit hesitant at first, wondering if I should just save up for the 300mm f/2.8L instead, but with such great image color and quality coming from the f/4L, my worries subsided. The lens hood of the 300 f/4L IS is retractable, and fits snugly while still allowing the use of the focus ring.
This lens is not for everyone, as a 300mm prime gets you up close and personal with whatever subject you are shooting; the autofocus can sometimes slip from subject to something in the foreground. It does seem suitable for macro photography with the caveat that one maintains at least 0.3 meters (about a foot away) in order to take the picture.
Compact wildlife lens June 26, 2010 Drifter (NYC, NY) Incredible IQ in a compact, hand-holdable, image stabilized lens. I have used 100-400 as well, while the zoom offers flexibility, this lens is a class apart in sharpness.
IQ difference between the zoom and prime is amplified at subjects over 50m make it a perfect lens for wildlife..
300mm F4L IS and 10-22mm are the only reasons I still shoot with Canon (rebel and 4/50D have poor ergonomics), and probably will be adding a new body to go with each, this is also the reason my D90 in mothballed (I was hoping Nikon will release a VR version when I switched to Nikon).

All around Best Lens For the Bucks! February 18, 2010 Tony 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
OK I own the 400 5.6L 30D&50D The 400 5.6 works great On the 30D But give me alot of problems on the 50D I read alot of reviews message boards and looked at thousands of images and setups and the deeper I got into the 50D+EF 300 4.0L IS setup the more I Liked it well I took the chance and Bought this lens and OMG this combo was made 4 each other this lens is like having a whole new world; sharpness; color; clarity;Bokeh; I mean so easy to use
and im so happy with the turnaround of images that are great!!! I dont care what lens you use in low light and with a converter its gonna hunt more and i have read that the IS is clunky and loud This Lens I got Feb. 16 2010 Is really pretty smooth fast and quiet I love it!! it works well very well on both my cameras! Each to his own I guess But This little lens Is fine with me! Now I Could pay 5 or 6 thousand and not be happy or spend 1300 and be very happy!!!
Really This is a Very Good Lens!! I personally love mine!! L's to ya folks its prime time!
